Client: Municipality of Bergamo
Work execution date: 2020 - 2021

Operational from September 2021 is the ‘Malpalagnola’ cycle-pedestrian footbridge in Bergamo, connecting the two districts of Malpensata and Colognola.

The Campagnola footbridge

It took two 200-tonne cranes to lift the structure’s 65,000kg, two weeks to assemble it in an adjacent street, and a few hours to position it between the two neighbourhoods.
After the positioning of the footbridge, work began on the assembly of the stairs, which with a weight of 35,000kg were necessary for pedestrians and at the same time bicycles/ scooters to cross via the dedicated lane.

It will be used by children and young people with bikes and skates to go to school, to the park or to reach friends. Grandparents will use it to go downtown, as well as runners and parents with strollers.

The structure, 51 metres long, 4 metres high and 4 metres wide, is guaranteed for 30 years thanks to the hot-dip galvanising and powder coating typical of NORD ZINC’s TRIPLEX system. A very complex work that took us two months to complete.
